After years and years of dreaming, I finally, FINALLY, went to Paris! A few months ago when my boyfriend asked if I wanted to go on a vacation, my answer was actually no. After an extremely busy Christmas (both at work and in our personal lives), I was exhausted. Growing up in a family that went to the same cottage every year, my idea of relaxation is a familiar place and I have never had an easy time unwinding on a foreign beach or in a new city. But then, as we were doing dishes, he threw it out: “What if we went to Paris…?”
Like many little girls, I was obsessed with Paris. To me, it was the epitome of love and romance and someday I would stand under the sparkling Eiffel Tower and have my belief in the romantic and the magical reaffirmed. As young as fourteen, I had pictures of Paris all over my room and locker, which turned into a dorm room full of Paris which eventually evolved into an apartment full of Paris. No one could believe I had never ACTUALLY been there.
So, Jay and I set off to create the perfect romantic vacation. We made a list of all the things we wanted to see but left most days open for gallivanting, espresso-drinking, French cuisine indulging and wine .. so much wine. We set aside enough money to cover the restaurants we were curious about and decided we would go all out and cut no corners.
And that is exactly what we did! Though the city has some of the most magical neighbourhoods, I fell most in love with Left Bank & Notre Dame. I think Jay and I went back to Notre Dame, Shakespeare and Co and our favourite restaurant The Tournbievre multiple times. Seriously guys, the most amazing food I have ever tasted! We had wine with every meal, slept in most days and stayed out late walking in the City of Light.
I’ve decided to do a few posts on the trip, because I want to talk in detail about a few things, but I have saved the best for last in this post! The Eiffel Tower and the most wonderful question I have ever been asked!
