BoB12-200x200I love Readathons. I love following others as they do them, I love doing them myself. I specifically love Sarah Says Read’s Master Posts, which I have modelled mine after for a while now!

But my main disclaimer is that I work full time, and am a very slow reader, and so my readathon numbers are pretty pithy. However, that doesn’t take the enjoyment out of it for me!

For all the Bout of Books information and lists of all the participants and challenges, check out their site here!

Let’s begin!

The Books:
(I am terrible at TBR’s but for the sake of the readathon, here we go!)

  • Wolf Winter by Cecilia Ekback (arc)
  • The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig (arc)
  • Saga Volume 4 (EEEEE!!!!)
  • Something else…

The Goals:

  • Finish the 3 books listed above and hopefully make a dent in something else.
  • Read 80 pages a day, or catch up on lost pages from one day on another, plus a bit extra to equal 600 pages at the end of the Readathon.

Monday
Number of pages I’ve read today: 35 (what a start…)
Total number of books I’ve finished: 0
Books I read from: Wolf Winter & The Fire Sermon
#todayinsixwords: Unexpected company means no reading tonight.
Running page total: 35/600

One of our friends was stranded at the airport on Sunday night and only able to get his flight back to the U.S. Tuesday morning. I had a bath for a bit of decompressing time, but getting back to waking up at 6 after two weeks of vacation, combined with an amazing LUSH bath bomb basically put me to sleep. I managed about 10 pages before passing out.

No good..

Tuesday
Number of pages I’ve read today: Hard to say… We’ll say 30
Total number of books I’ve read: 1
Books I read from: The Fire Sermon, Jane, the Fox and Me, The Sleeper and the Spindle
#todayinsixwords: So tired, let’s read children’s books.
Running page total: 65/600

Okay so, fail day number two.  I’ve recently changed my work schedule and now go in an hour earlier. This is proving to be exhausting while my sleep schedule is adjusting.  Yesterday, I read a few pages of The Fire Sermon (which I am reading for work) on my way INTO work, then was told I no longer had to read it. I enjoyed the beginning, so I will finish it at some point, but not right now. I should have gone home and read Wolf Winter (my ACTUAL current book) but instead I got home to a package containing Neil Gaiman & Chris Riddell’s The Sleeper and the Spindle, which I ordered over Christmas and is a very wordy illustrated kids book. I ate dinner while watching reruns of Grey’s Anatomy, had a long bath, then I decided I was in the mood for a kids book.  So, instead of picking up the one I JUST got (because who knows why I do what I do?) I read Jane, the Fox and Me (which is a less wordy kids graphic novel I believe). It had around 100 pages, but I’m going to count it as 15 as there were words .. just not that many. Then I read half of The Sleeper and the Spindle and fell asleep. I PROMISE tomorrow will contain an actual worthy word count (because it’s Wednesday as I write this and I’ve already read a bit today on my commute, yay!). Also, if you haven’t heard of or seen The Sleeper and the Spindle, look it up! So beautiful! Okay, that’s all.

Heh….

Wednesday
Number of pages I’ve read today: 13
Total number of books I’ve read: 0
Books I read from: Wolf Winter
#todayinsixwords: This could not go any worse
Running page total: 78/600

I came into work this morning planning to delete this post and give up.  This has been the worst 3 reading days for me in AGES. Last night I had every intention of going home and spending a quiet night reading, but friends of ours that we never get to see called and asked us to go for dinner. By the time I got home, I was dead tired and fell asleep.
If you are still with me, I apologize for wasting your time checking these posts to see my minuscule progress.. BUT, BUT, BUT!  Tomorrow is my deadline for reading Wolf Winter for work (it needs to be passed to someone else), so I will accomplish at least 175 pages tonight if it keeps me up all evening. I still have hope for reaching my 600 page goal!

I CAN DO THIS. (Tomorrow’s motivation)

Thursday
Number of pages I’ve read today: 98
Total number of books I’ve read: 0
Books I read from: Wolf Winter
#todayinsixwords: Finally got my reading groove back!
Running page total: 176/600

YES! I actually read a decent amount!  I fell asleep before finishing Wolf Winter, but will finish it early tomorrow morning (me speaking from the future: I did!).

The groooooove is back!

Friday
Number of pages I’ve read today: 91
Total number of books: 1
Books I read from: Wolf Winter, When It Feels Like the Movies
#todayinsixwords: Finished my first book of readathon!
Running page total: 267/600

I finished Wolf Winter at my desk at work and then ran around talking to my coworkers who were also reading it and discussed it for far too long. I have plenty of feelings about that book! Then I read a few pages of When It Feels Like the Movies, which was a winner of the GG Award. All in all, very happy with today’s progress!

It may be impossible to look at this without smiling.

Saturday
Number of pages I’ve read today: 89
Total number of books I’ve read: 1
Books I read from: When Everything Feels Like the Movies, Bradbury Stories
#todayinsixwords: Lots of time, harder to read
Running page total: 356/600

I had time to read in the morning, but it was tougher to keep reading. When Everything Feels Like the Movies is not something I would typically pick up for myself, and it’s turning out to be one of those books that I don’t necessarily “enjoy” reading but that I really appreciate. It’s a very sexual book about a bunch of middle school kids, told through the eyes of a young gay boy who treats his life as though he is a movie star in order to both glamourize his small town, but also to escape the cruelty of other kids and the seeming hopelessness of his home life. It breaks down the barriers of how we see young adults, and how they are treated by both adults and each other.  Before bed, I read the introduction and a bit of the first story in Bradbury Stories; a collection of 100 of Ray Bradbury’s most celebrated stories. A post will be coming soon about Project Bradbury!

Instead of a gif today, you get a little Ray :).

Sunday
Number of pages I’ve read today: 161
Total number of books I’ve read: 2
Books I read from: Bradbury Stories, Saga Volume 4, H is for Hawk
#todayinsixwords: Large page count because of Saga
Running page total: 517/600

Woke up and finished my Ray Bradbury story and then spent the day doing chores and playing on the internet when I should have been reading. In the evening, I finally let myself read Saga Volume 4 which I’ve been holding off on to get some more of my work reading finished and though some of my favourite characters got less air time in this one, I still loved it!  Before bed I dipped into H is for Hawk but I’m not sure I will be continuing. At least not at this moment in time.  Ended the readathon on a pretty good note!

Wrap Up
Total pages read: 517
Books finished: Wolf Winter, Saga Volume 4
Books started but not finished: When Everything Feels Like the Movies, Bradbury Stories

Overall, I came super close to my goal of 600 pages this week and I’m super impressed with myself! This is the best I have ever done on a readathon. Ever. Woooohoo!

Thanks for joining me :).
